Millions of Indians have seen a demonstration of military might and cultural diversity at the celebration of the Republic Day. Strict security measures were taken during the holiday. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was a special guest at the parade in the Indian capital on Sunday.
Students, folk dancers, police and military battalions have gone through New Delhi, and then there was a parade of arms and folk dances.
India adopted its democratic Constitution of 26 January 1950. Similar parades were held in such Indian states like Jammu - Kashmir and Manipur, where separatist rebels do not accept Indian rule and called for a general strike.
