Houska Castle was built in the late 13th century by King Premysl. Prior to that, there was a wooden castle, which the prince had built for his son Gouseka on whose behalf and was the castle name. This building repeatedly changed its purpose: it was and archive libraries, and the German military headquarters, and the summer residence of the government. At the end of the 90s the castle was restored and opened to the public the new owners. It would seem that this story does not cause tingling of the skin and quite scary. But the thing legends that enveloped the ancient castle.
The locals are very fond of telling that sometime in the rock there was a huge crack from which our world fell demons and terrifying creatures. There could be heard strange sounds, and no one knew whether there is in this hole bottom. It is said that one day the offender offered a deal: he will descend on a rope into the well and tell what I saw, and in return they would give him freedom. Once a man was lowered into the devil's gorge, he began to scream and beg to him quickly pulled. When the people saw the perpetrator, they stirred the hair on his head - he was gray in a few minutes, his face was covered with wrinkles, and the rope was impregnated with sulfur. Shortly after this event, the man died from an unknown disease.
After this incident the king decided to fill a split in the rock, to close the gates of hell. But no matter how many stones and sand people were thrown, the hole still remained. In fact, to somehow stop the appearance of strange creatures, the locals took three years. After such manipulations in the area it was very difficult to find even a simple cobblestone, because they all went straight into the bottomless pit. To avoid a repetition of the story of the split built a chapel, which can be accessed today. On the walls of the chapel you can see many frescoes, in particular to combat the image of angels and demons. The central figure is the Archangel Michael and the Last Judgment. Around her, the castle was built, the structure of which still raises many questions.
All the walls and towers of the castle Houska were turned inward, which suggests that people are not protected from the outside, but from the internal enemies. Until now, scientists could not find an explanation for why this building was built there. It is located in the mountains, surrounded by forest. Houska Castle is situated very far from the borders of the country and from water sources. Next to him there are no settlements, only mountains and forests.
