The designers JAJA Architects studio, developed a multi-storey parking in the new actively built Nordhavn area in Copenhagen, Denmark, was able to make the building an integral part of the urban environment.
The starting point of the project was the usual for a multi-tiered parking structure. The challenge was to create an attractive green facade and come up with a move that could encourage people to climb to the roof.
Rather than hide the structure of the building, the architects proposed a concept that emphasizes the beauty of design, visual dividing a continuous facade. System boxes with greenery arranged in a rhythm, which introduces a new dimension; through metal grid vines entwine facades, making it appear more friendly parking. Two large staircases with continuous metal handrails are a fantastic playground, located on the roof. Elements that were initially conventional handrails, are transformed into a swing, playground fence for ball games, children's "roller coaster" and a variety of other devices for games and sports. From the street level, railing literally take visitors by the hand, inviting them on a journey to the roof, which offers amazing views of the port of Copenhagen.
