• House for two artists in Gloucestershire

house for couples consisting of two artists built a studio Loyn & Co Architects in the ancient Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, England.
Building area of 590 square meters stands on the southern slope of a gentle wooded hill, with a panoramic view of the exceptional beauty of the Wye Valley. The task of the architects was to replace the pre-existing three buildings on a new home that meets both the specifics of locations and customer needs. Since both the customer - the artists, in addition to their being in love with the landscape the authors had to take into account the need for the device of two workshops, as well as the space, performing the function of the gallery.
The natural environment has become a major source of inspiration for the project. The shape of the building is dictated by the terrain (slope, trees, views of angles), as well as the site of history.
Traces of three standing here earlier buildings have been preserved and incorporated into a new home, in accordance with the logic of a reversing space "inside out". In their place, the architects made a beautiful protected patios, once inside the new building. Old houses like "been turned" inside out: what was outside, now turned inside, and vice versa. An extensive green roof is created by continuing an existing field at the top of the hill. When looking at the low-lying housing from the north, it is completely hidden in the existing slope. Along with the fact that the area of the house has increased significantly, its visual impact on the landscape is reduced.
The interior spaces are organized around courtyards, separated by a central space of the gallery with studios, arranged in the body of the hill and is equipped with large skylights.
The building was constructed using environmentally sustainable technologies, and its power consumption is much lower than the standards set for passive houses.
